WesterCon 57
ConKopelli
Charity Auction
We will be hosting two separate Charity Auctions. One
will be our traditional Charity Auction which will feature books, art,
posters, toys and other Science Fiction and Fantasy memorabilia donated
by local businesses, dealers at the convention and artists from the Art
Show. The other will be a special auction of books. Only First
Editions or an Advance Reading Copy that has been autographed
by the author will be presented. All books that are presented
as a First Edition are done so at the best judgement of our Charity Auction
Director. No guarantee is made by either Catherine Book or ConKopelli-Westercon.
If you have any questions, please ask via e-mail or inspect the book prior
to auction.
The charities that will benefit are Reading
is FUNdamental (RIF) and two of the Challenger Space Centers. Reading
is FUNdamental (RIF) develops and delivers children’s and family literacy
programs that help prepare young children for reading and motivate school-age
children to read. By the end of this year, RIF will have provided
new, free books and other essential literacy resources to more than 5 million
children and their families.
The other two beneficiaries are The Challenger Space Center
of Arizona located in Phoenix and the Challenger Center for Space Science
Education located in the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson. The
Challenger Space Centers are international, not-for-profit organizations
founded by the families of the seven Challenger astronauts who perished
in 1986. Originally designed to offer educational programs to school children
and teachers, the centers are now open to the public with a variety of
programs including space missions, stargazing family programs and planetarium
programs. A complete calendar of scheduled events is available on
their websites.
